Something Spooky This Way Comes

October is one of my favorite months of the year. I love the changing season, the darker evenings, and all the ghost stories that come with it. So, of course, next month’s puzzle set needs a little mystery with a spooky twist.

I’ve never been to Alaska, but while researching this month’s theme I learned that August is the only summer month when visitors have a chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis.

Looking Ahead to September…

Next month, I'll be returning to mystery-themed puzzles. I've also been warming to the idea of creating a mystery puzzle book and have started thinking about what that might look like.

For some reason, August feels like a month for reading. What am I saying? Every month is a month for reading, but reading in August feels different than reading in September.

With that in mind, I thought I’d share my favorite of my paperback word search books: Nostalgic Book Club Word Search. It features 125 classic novels spanning the late 1800s through the end of the twentieth century. I discovered so many books worth reading while putting this collection together.

What’s up for August…

I'll be spending the dog days of August close to home this year, but I'll still be daydreaming about far-off destinations. Perhaps the kind of places that are best visited during the summer months.

Looking Ahead to July

June is busy. There’s gardening to do, loose ends to tie up, and all the little preparations that seem to come with the shift from spring into summer. For me, the most important thing to consider in June is how exactly I’d like to be idle in July.

A Real Rebus Puzzle Challenge from 1913

I learned two things while putting together this month’s puzzle set. First, puzzle contests were very popular in the early 1900s. Second, weekly rebus puzzles were commonly included in newspapers during that time. If you are not familiar with a rebus puzzle, it is a visual word riddle, and honestly, I find the historic ones quite tough.
